Super Kart Thailand Round 4

Round 4 of the Super Kart Thailand at Bira Kart Track, Pattaya 22nd-23rd of August 2009. The Birel ProSport Kart Team were fielding 4 drivers in this event, 2 regular drivers and 2 new drivers from Vietnam.

125 Formula A

Josh Clegg
Josh Clegg entered the Formula A class with a large entry list for this race which would be a good test as he had not raced for several weeks after his summer break. Saturdays practice went well and Josh was one of the quickest on the track and things were looking good for Sundays race.

Sundays qualifying Josh was second 2 tenths away from Ninja and Josh had his sights set on getting to the front as soon as possible. Heat 1 he was quicker so he went for the move on the second lap and tried to go around the out side with did not pay off and found himself back in forth place when the flag dropped.

Heat 2 Josh worked his way back up the field but could not close up on Ninja. So to the final, a few more do or die moves and Josh was now back in 6th, time to settle down and focus on the race, now with the podium out of his reach he set about after the front guys. Lap by lap he made up positions and was now in third, but a mistake on the dying laps let Pasin take him and Josh had to settle for fourth place.

His Birel RX-32 S1 Proved to be one of the fastest karts on the track with the IAME KF 2 package, but with a little more race strategy, he may have been on the top step, next time, lets see what he can do at the next round at Saraburi on the 19th and 20th of September.

Mini-Rok/ Cadet A Classes

Daniel Muller
Daniel Muller driving the Birel C-28 C-J entered both classes with the Mini-Rok engine to gain points and climb higher in the Overall standings.

Early practice showed that Daniel had good place and was setting lap times similar to the fastest drivers. Qualifying went well and he was up with the front pack, so the race would be on in the heats and final. Daniel was showing that he has gained more experience and did well in both of his heats changing positions several times.

Final was now time to make his move and he showed good race strategy and went for the lead several times, but the experience of the other driver showed that they would just wait till the latter stages of the race to gain their positions. Daniel finished 4th in Mini-Rok and 5th in the Cadet A class taking home two trophies.

albert-andrew-schaffer
Joining Daniel in the class were the 2 brothers from Vietnam Albert and Andrew Schaffer both driving new Birel L-28 C-Y powered by the Mini-Rok engine.

This was to be Albert's second race in Thailand and Andrew first and both boys came to Bira earlier in the week to learn the track and to see what lap times they could set. Things were looking good for the weekends racing, but as both boys found out race pace is a different story and they found them selves 2-3 seconds off the quicker drivers.

Albert was finding it hard on his neck muscles in the race, but managed to keep going and finished the final. After a crash in heat 2 put him out of that heat, but overall did well and bet a lot of the more experience drivers.

Andrew showed good pace in all heats and was getting faster every time he went out, but a mistake in the Final after being in 7th place put him off the track and by the time he started again he found himself last. Better luck next time boys.
