Rotax Max Challenge Fourth Round
Fourth and final round of the Rotax Max Challenge at Saraburi 5-6th September 2009
Birel ProSport Kart Team takes its final win in the Rotax Max Championship with Cameron Storah at the final race in the Rotax calendar for 2009.
Once again Cameron Storah dominated the Rotax Challenge field and, at the same time, pushed the DD2s splitting these faster karts in both qualifying and the races. To get this disparity into real perspective the DD2 have front brakes, two speed gear box and 5 more horsepower plus , for this event the DD2s were shod with sticky Bridgestone’s due to a tyre shortage while all other Rotax entrants including Cameron had to use the harder compound Mojos.
The Prosportasia prepared Birel R31-SE was, as usual, prepared faultlessly and the Friday afternoon/Saturday went smoothly, testing, testing, and more testing. With Mike Ord absent in Japan, Aek, Pui and Cameron prepared for the conditions in a logical and practical manner.
Qualifying Heat - Cameron qualified in 3rd place overall right in the middle of the DD2s and a comfortable pole for his class in the 16 karts field.
Heat 1 - Won his class by a clear mile, finished 4th due to the DD2s ability to get off the line with its gearing.
Heat 2 - another first in class and 5th outright.
Pre-Final - First, Jukka a close second, due an oily back straight caused by one of the four stroke engines destroying itself and spraying oil for the last 75 meters leading to the bottom corner right hander so no passing was allowed on the straight.
Final - Was another first and was extremely close with Tisanu using Cameron as a brake due to 2 DD2’s holding him up in all the wrong places.
Cameron Results in the full Rotax series, there were 16 races in all including heats, prefinals and finals, Cameron Storah 12 firsts, 3 seconds and 1 third and not one DNF.
Unfortunately at only 13 years old, Cameron is unable to represent Thailand at the Rotax World Finals in Egypt in the senior class due to age, watch out for us next year.
